Pastiche noun; an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist or period. Cue long time keyboard enthusiast Pat and his project PATSTICHE <-- see what he did there.

This Sydney based musician has kept a low if not non-existent profile over the years. Early this year, he snapped up a slot behind the decks at the Secret Garden Festival as well as a few other DJ appearances. Now, by way of either quarter-life crisis or maybe a sudden stroke of creativity, Patstiche has entered the world and our aural conscious. He brings with him a fresh scent on a carefully curated yet oh so familiar sound.

'Incandescent' is first and foremost a synth-pop ballad. It is also the second single from Patstiche. The song is about lightbulbs which feels strikingly appropriate given that I probably could not sleep with 'Incandescent' turned on. Patstiche kicks off with a swift flourish of his keys. Sam Saint Jones half of indie duo Cheviot delivers a vocal performance veering on the edge of power ballad but stopping just short of that band from The Wedding Singer.

The hero of the track is synth-heavy riffs layered from the start and throughout.  Patstiche as an artist truly wears all his influences right there on his sleeve. It has all the trimmings of an 80's power-ballad as well as a serious nod to the golden age of mid naughties synth-pop.

We are not entirely sure what is on the horizon for Patstiche but if you're not ashamed to be seen cutting shapes under a corny disco ball, be sure to keep an eye and an ear out for this guy.
