As much as it pains any Australian to admit, when New Zealand does something good, they do it damned good. Meet MADEIRA, a young Kiwi lady brining us the track ‘Manipulator’, a somewhat gloomy, somewhat funky disco beat about relationship woes.
Born to this earth as Kim Pflaum, Madeira spent time fronting Yumi Zouma, before returning to her musical roots Madeira. She was once an introverted child, that excelled in basically any creative endeavour she touched, from graphic design to instrumental music. Music is a relaxing way to process the world around her, so here in ‘Manipulator’ you have a track that is part chill, part slow disco vibe.
Madeira’s voice is whispy and echoey, set to an organ like background, giving the track an opening that sounds almost like hushed prayer. As soon as the beat kicks in and synth is added, the track gains it’s groove, allowing you to bop around, fuelling your anger for any wankers you have encountered in your time, all while allowing you to remain vaguely chirpy. Seems better than anything a therapist could offer to be honest.
