Live Review: Just A Gent 'Heavy As A Heartbreak'

We’ve got some brash future bass beats from provincial Maitland courtesy of the very young producer, Jacob Grant, aka JUST A GENT aka JAG.

We’ve got some brash future bass beats from provincial Maitland courtesy of the very young Jacob Grant, aka JUST A GENT aka JAG. He’s just dropped a brand new single ‘Heavy As A Heartbreak’ and it features the vocals of the husky Melbourne singer/songwriter LANKS.

The track starts soft and demure, until JAG whacks a massive donk on it. ‘Heavy As A Heartbreak’ has that same punchy neon-splintered dance music style as Hermitude and Carmada, and LANKS’ Chet Faker-esque croaky vocals cushion themselves amidst the melee of drums and electronic synth.

Just A Gent wrote, produced, mixed and mastered the song all from his bedroom studio, and his hard work has paid off with a track premier on Triple J Goodnights.

With killer sets at this year’s Splendour and Groovin The Moo, he’ll be gearing up for another round on the summer circuit and looking to build on the success of his 200,000 Soundcloud plays for ‘Waveless’ with support from FBi, triple j, Beats 1 and BBC Radio 1.
