"The self-titling suggests its personal nature, as her romantic relationship with its producer sputtered."

More by accident than design, Melbourne-via-Adelaide Krista Polvere's Americana flavoured albums are coloured by the company she's kept.

Having her talent championed by Ryan Adams, who then played on her first two records, didn't hurt. The third is different. The self-titling suggests its personal nature, as her romantic relationship with its producer sputtered - giving titles like All I Really Wanted Was You, and Lonelier Than Yesterday a perhaps mistaken context of being the songs playing as you drive away. There's raw sincerity there, although Shut Up & Ride could be the too-deliberate 'country rock' single. Polvere's an unarguably fine writer and singer, who maybe just needs some space to find herself.
