KataklysmArguably one of death metal's most consistent performers have now reached the dozen albums mark, but there's zilch indication they're losing their hunger.
The Canucks' hyper–blast is accentuated by carefully–inserted melodic flourishes and judicious tempo variations, ultimately establishing an almost grandiose scope. Thy Serpents Tongue's pounding grooves and hook–laden riffs are contrasted by idiosyncratic Soul Destroyer or mini–epic The World Is A Dying Insect's atmospherics. The bludgeoning becomes somewhat numb through the second half, but aided by veteran Andy Sneap's crisp mix, the album is executed with the precision and experience of a skilled surgeon.
