It is a pleasant haze of a record
Three albums in, Jessica Lea Mayfield swaps acoustic textures for an electric, swirling, '90s-influenced production. It's a lesson in style. Songs are sprawling, fuzzy, narcoleptic trips, from the poppy Standing In The Sun to the dreamy Party Drugs, Unknown Big Secret and Seein Starz. Her weightless, girlish vocals no longer dominate folk-style, but are a sweet counterpoint to the gloriously fuzzed-out guitar riffs. The aesthetic is captured well, and it is a pleasant haze of a record if you're feeling nostalgic and don't need any strong conceptual or lyrical presence.
