With this veteran performer you’re in safe hands from the get-go as she haphazardly wheels from fart jokes, to observations on sex as you get older to tales of being a parent.
Bespectacled English stand up Jenny Éclair bursts onto stage and performs an animated yet crude cartwheel. It turns out to be a metaphor for the show. With this veteran performer you're in safe hands from the get-go as she haphazardly wheels from fart jokes, to observations on sex as you get older to tales of being a parent. Eclairious is Éclair in a reflective mood; she's 53, not as thin as she used to be, and no longer obliged to give out blow jobs like a teenager in a bus shelter. She may be getting older, but don't expect this lady to start acting like a kindly middle-aged woman in a cardigan doling out tea. Éclair is by turns hilariously rude (a joke about Simon Cowell is particularly effective) and cunningly astute. On preview night Éclair's delivery seemed slightly off, but no doubt this was down to jet lag. If you're looking for old school stand up from a rich female perspective, then Eclairious is the ticket – if you can get one.
