More Gesaffelstein More Gesaffelstein

Disclaimer: this is not for the faint-hearted. The debut album from French production prodigy Gesaffelstein contains some of dirtiest bass and heaviest beats this reviewer can recall in 2013. Despite the heavy-handed approach from Mike Lévy's alter-ego there are moments of greatness to be found on Aleph. Lévy layers beats on beats on beats to impressive effect. Percussion and bass is at the forefront of each track and it is certainly an abrasive listen.

Synth stabs, house beats and dark atmospheres – it is challenging in the best possible way. There are moments where tracks suffer from sameness and comparisons between similar artists like Justice can be seen. Overlook these blemishes and you are in for a wild record. Turn this up to 11 and strap yourself in for a dark electronica ride.
