Album Review: Fait - Sonder

StarStarStarStar

"Few acts have mastered their sound as diligently as shoegaze virtuoso Elise Higgins; aka Fait."

Her career may only be two EPs old, but few acts have mastered their sound as diligently as shoegaze virtuoso Elise Higgins; aka Fait.

As the opening ambient swirl of Solace demonstrates, her decision not to use vocals is entirely justified given her capacity to express a complex range of emotions through music alone. Every track here creates a tangible atmosphere of its own, but it's the powerful undercurrent of bass strings on the closing Siren Song which steal the breath away and underpin possibly her most captivating track to date.
