"Refusing to relent on positive vibes, East Of Ely commit to their rosy nostalgia with a contagious enthusiasm"

A wormy slice of uplifting indie-pop, opener Easy Friend showcases this EP's strongest melody. The retro, karaoke stylings of Waterfalls mark the start of its unapologetic venture into '80s pastiche: slapped bass lines, echoing snare drums and shrill, committed vocals inform a motivational soundscape suited for slow-motion running in a cheesy montage. Refusing to relent on positive vibes, East Of Ely commit to their rosy nostalgia with a contagious enthusiasm. As such, jarring closer Proud doesn't pull off the soulful ballad, suggesting the band should stick with the upbeat. They play The Espy, 22 May.
