Album Review: Dub Pistols - Return of the Pistoleros

"Most of this sixth album quenches an insatiable ska thirst with a triple-vodka Red Bull in every track."

The danger with Dub Pistols is that it’s often more fascinating to talk about their urban mythically-decadent rise and fall than their bangin’ choons.

Swaggering like outlaws (being ‘gangsta’ is so passé!), their template remains consistent: stanking beats, reggae and massive echo chambers all pulverising speakers. Ride With It skates too closely to overused Prodigy tropes, but most of this sixth album quenches an insatiable ska thirst with a triple-vodka Red Bull in every track. One-time Beats International-ist Lindy Layton’s welcome sweetness closes Our Life but this Return is as dangerous as hoped.
