Aljawal will keep fans of Shangaan electro shaking.
Nubian vocalist Alsarah rather eclectically teams up with French producer Débruit, who always charms with his uber-wonky Afro-booty electro music. Their debut, Aljawal (traveller), is ostensibly about migration and the experience of nomadic diaspora. Listeners unable to translate the lyrics will most likely leave this album feeling they've experienced the brutal collision of the past and future, where traditional and modern influences attempt to reconcile with each other. Alsarah's soothing vocals drift across North African and Arabian influences while Débruit twists and stretches Sudanese music into quirky hyperactive electro. Aljawal will keep fans of Shangaan electro shaking.
