Album Review: Dave Rawlings Machine - Nashville Obsolete

StarStarStarStar

"Americana dream team of Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch return and usher us back to a bygone era."

More Dave Rawlings Machine Dave Rawlings Machine Profile

The Americana dream team of Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch return and usher us back to a bygone era when strings and voices were all you needed to concoct gorgeous timeless music.

The seven indolent numbers stretch out and unveil at their leisure — The Trip surpassing ten minutes and all bar a couple reaching five — but all defined by superbly-crafted arrangements, deftly-picked guitar runs and angelic harmonies. Ex-Old Crow Willie Watson is prominent but it's the Rawlings-Welch nexus' heavenly rapport which provides the bulk of the back porch beauty.
