Album Review: Cool Drinks - Cool Drinks

"Its subtle, emotionally evocative tone proves a memorable highlight amongst these heavily nostalgic tracks."

This fuzzy, electro-pop offering from local Matthew Cribb mixes hefty beats with bright, watery synths. For its duration, it feels like we're wading through a haze of echoing buzz; the release shrouded in a misty '80s sheen. Murmuring, dark vocals in Don't Look Back are strongly evocative of The Jesus & Mary Chain, while Washed Out has a more brooding quality with definite hints of The Smiths. The latter's modestly longing melody punctuates the EP's mellow, drifting mood to great effect. Its subtle, emotionally evocative tone proves a memorable highlight amongst these heavily nostalgic tracks.
