"We can only guess as to why Chakra Efendi and his band aren't headlining bigger stages."

More Chakra Efendi More Chakra Efendi

As local producer Harmon takes the stage along with his band, the dancefloor of the venue becomes host to a few delightful and welcoming circles of friends. Whether it's mixtures of the chorus and other modulation, there's something for everyone to dance to.

Exactly 12 months ago, in the same venue, very few people came out to see Brisbane's young prodigy Chakra Efendi and his band play. As lighting dropped to a purple shade, Efendi accommodates the much larger audience with a sombre opening track.

The band plays a loud extended intro before swaying into the simple chords of Hearts Of Lead. Fronting with mellow vocals, Efendi brings a hometown element to King Krule-like ambience. As the band collectively enter back into the song, it generates a string of heartfelt emotions.

Drummer Fin Marx shows endless prowess during Don't Go, providing fill-ins that create an emotional aura in the band's overall presence as well as an increased level of crowd enjoyment. Single Waste Of Space inspires so much of the crowd to dance around the stage that even the band look surprised.

Debuting new live material shows that the local artist has a lot in store for Brisbane — all amazing things too. With lighting displaying a spectrum of bright strobes and deep red flares, the new tracks almost make the audience feel like they're written just for them — it certainly draws out individual connections to the songs. Finally, they close with latest single Grow Up, the bassist providing an incredibly soft vocal touch to the chorus and bridge. We can only guess as to why Chakra Efendi and his band aren't headlining bigger stages.
