Album Review: Body/Head - Coming Apart

At times hypnotic, at others almost unbearable, it is ultimately a truly rewarding experience for those with an ear for noise.

More Body/Head More Body/Head

“I can only think of you in the abstract” moans Kim Gordon on opener Abstract from Coming Apart, her first full-length album since Sonic Youth's implosion. The line sums up the record nicely. The group, Body/Head, formed with experimental rock guitarist Bill Nace, is (perhaps unsurprisingly) a brutal and challenging listen. Easily the most abstract and non-traditional thing her muscular and haunting voice has touched since the '80s, Coming Apart is contrastingly minimal and densely layered. At times hypnotic, at others almost unbearable, it is ultimately a truly rewarding experience for those with an ear for noise.
