"He’d somehow unravel the tense situation to have you all laughing."
Truly a veteran of the comedy circuit, Arj Barker is just the right amount of inflammatory American humour for Australia.
He knows where to let loose and where to shut it down. Constant swearing, Al-Qaeda, self-deprecation, anti Gen-Y sentiment and selfies are all totally okay with us Aussies. Jokes about asylum seeker policy and cancer did not fly at all. We’re just glad he tried it and put it all out there. What was more impressive was how he could go on tangents that sounded like a self-help seminar and you couldn’t quite tell whether he was being ironic; the whole room would be silent and he’d somehow unravel the tense situation to have you all laughing. On those tangents, we were left in hysterics, but never sure if he was serious.
