Album Review: Allannah Russack - Lesser Mysteries Of Love

3 November 2014 | 9:14 am | Ross Clelland

"A sweetly intimate offering"

To many, Russack will always be the quintessential indie girl, sing-songing in front of The Hummingbirds. However, she – if not some of us – has grown up. Even if 20 years on, those ‘lesser mysteries’ can still be big ones. Her voice retains that fragile lilt, but the guitars are strolling rather than rushing headlong. Two Of Us smiles reflectively, although its relationship seems in the past tense. Conversely, Baby is hopes addressed to inside a “swollen big belly”. Songs like that, and the confession of weakness to One Place, make this a sweetly intimate offering.
