More Sampa The Great More Sampa The Great

PBS Melbourne's Drive Live has sadly wrapped up for now but The Music is very happy to be sharing a snippet of the magic with you today.

This year's Drive Live featured performances from the likes of REMI, Suss Cunts, Thando, Ainslie Wills, Private Function, Oh Pep! and a stack more.

Today, we're pleased to be sharing the incredible Sampa The Great's performance of her track Flowers with special guest REMI, which was recorded at PBS' studio in front of a live audience on Friday last week.

"PBS Drive Live is a great opportunity for PBS listeners to be here physically and to see live music in action," shares PBS Music and Interviews Coordinator Firas Massouh

"Radio is as important as ever, particularly in the age of Spotify and Soundcloud where people have music curated to them by algorithm. Radio connects human beings to each other through music. PBS Drive Live is a rare opportunity for listeners to engage with the station and unite with one another, while seeing how radio works."

"Sampa The Great represents where so much of Australian contemporary music is heading at the moment, in terms of style, sound, approach and empowerment, particularly for those who may not have had that kind of exposure in the past.

"Sampa embodies a new manifestation of soul, hip hop and funk in a contemporary landscape. She is a representation of youth – a young person with a powerful voice and powerful story – who engages other young people, attracts new listenership to PBS, and entices audiences to explore music and politics in new ways."
