Even job applications can go viral now

More The Internet More The Internet

We love a good sleeper hit, and this video of American interpreter Shelby Mitchusson performing Eminem's hit Lose Yourself entirely in sign language going viral eight months after its original upload is the perfect example of the hockey-stick-shaped trajectory content can take on the internet.

According to the International Business Times, in late 2014, Mitchusson uploaded the video as part of a job application to work with the sign-language team at Austin City Limits. It stayed relatively unnoticed at first, before picking up views exponentially — IBT cites 215,000 as at this past Thursday night; it now has more than a million. That's viral traction in action, right there.

As IBT reports, Mitchusson, for her part, has since responded to the upswing in enthusiasm for her video application, thanking those who have watched and shared the clip in a Facebook post.

"I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shared my video and thank you for taking the time to watch it," she wrote.

"I have to say, I did not upload it for entertainment purposes. I uploaded it purely for interpreting."

And — in case you were wondering — yes, she got the job.

"I got the gig and still my heart flutters with how well our team worked together equally and the fact that finally these companies are opening their eyes to the true hidden gem talent of Deaf performers and Deaf people signing music," she wrote, "which we NEED to see more of!"
