WA’s Newest Live Music Venue Will Look Like A Scene Out Of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater

Awesome.

WA skate shop Soggybones has unveiled plans to utilise its warehouse as a dedicated live music space.

After hosting a handful of pop-up gigs over the past year, the current retail aspect of Soggybones will be relocated to the shopfront, freeing up the warehouse space for a permanent stage and sound system.

Current plans were delayed last week when the store was robbed, but owner-operator Justin Ward told theMusic.com.au they’re still on track to launch in the coming months.

“We’re going through construction now, moving the shop, doing renovations,” Ward said.

“We’ve got two big spaces and we’ll be looking to put music events on in both on a regular basis.

“We’ve got to get through this next month, then we’ll sit down and nut out the shows and do a schedule for hopefully years to come.”

Boutique indie punk festival Hot Freaks (presented by The Music) later this month will see the space as a “blank canvas” while they transition the shop, and after the Aug 27 event, a stage will be built in front of the skating bowl.

Currently in negotiations with the council, Ward estimates the capacity of the Soggybones live music venue will be 350, with the intention of hosting gigs on a weekly basis.

WA is well and truly out of its venue shortage, with Gyroscope’s Rob Nassif unveiling Hen House Live last week and soon-to-be-developed youth precinct Stompbox also set to host live music.
