“We’re supporting our music industry at every level and across all genres."

If you ever thought the argument that Victoria's live music scene is leading the way for the rest of the country could be contested, you might want to reconsider because the state just showed us all up again.

As part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $22.2 million Music Works program, local musicians, bands, venues, festivals and events are all set to get a boost in funding with grants that support local talent and industry development with recording, touring, promotional campaigns, music festivals, international tours and showcases.

The latest funding will provide more than $500,000 for 46 projects, which range from the creation of an album that showcases Aboriginal music from the '90s, to support for festivals, independent labels and international tours.

"Our Music Works program recognises, supports and celebrates our vibrant contemporary music scene and the central role – social, cultural and economic – that music plays in our creative state," Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, said.

"We’re supporting our music industry at every level and across all genres. In doing so, it contributes greatly to Victoria’s reputation as the nation’s live music heartland."

"Audiences at home and abroad will have much to look forward to as each of the projects are realised – with more Music Works initiatives still to come."

The next major funding round opens in January 2017 and closes at 5pm, 15 February 2017 for activities commencing after 1 June 2017.
