New York rock icons The Velvet Underground have now been immortalised in documentary form thanks to prolific film director Todd Haynes.
The filmmaker, who has gained critical acclaim for features such as Carol and Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, has taken his first full-length foray into the doco format by taking on the legendary Lou Reed-fronted group.
The Velvet Underground features footage from the band's heyday, chronicling everything from the early days of the '60s to their collaboration with Andy Warhol, right up to the tumultuous breakdown of the band and the passing of core members such as Reed and multi-instrumentalist Sterling Morrison.
Set to air on Apple TV+ from October 15, the film also features interviews from surviving Velvet Underground John Cale and Mo Tucker and contemporaries like The Modern Lovers frontman Jonathan Richman, as well as never-before-seen footage from Warhol during his tenure with the band.
