Vance Joy Is Crushing It In Canada Too

18 September 2014 | 3:38 pm | Staff Writer

The 'Riptide' hit-maker's debut album is doing some serious business up North America way

More Vance Joy More Vance Joy

Vance Joy's week of chart-smashing performance just got even more impressive with the revelation that the Mess Is Mine scribe's debut full-length, Dream Your Life Away, has made its debut in Canada at #2.

The top-two placing for the album was a close one, too, with Joy falling only 300 sales units shy of knocking off top-placeholder Maroon 5, and coming in a slightly more assured 2000 units ahead of the next-highest-placing album.

Below the Canadian border, in the US, Joy still wrangled a top-20 opening effort, stepping out at #17 and racking up almost 20,000 units in sales for his inaugural appearance.

He's no stranger across the pond, either, with a recent appearance on BBC2's Later With Jools Holland, alongside esteemed peers such as alt-j, Ryan Adams, The O Jays and FKA Twigs, proving the latest international feather in his cap when the performance resulted in "Vance Joy" being one of the top-10 trending Twitter topics in the UK immediately following its airing.

Have a watch of the performance below and marvel at the seemingly unstoppable path on which Joy was set with his humble little uke ditty Riptide last year. If you expected it to be anything remotely as world-beatingly successful as this, you're either ridiculously attuned to the culture of the moment, a witch or a liar.
