UK R&B star and in-demand singer-songwriter Mahalia has announced a 2024 Australian tour, returning to our shores in April and May.
Mahalia’s tour begins at Perth’s Astor Theatre (Boorloo) on 30 April, followed by Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall (Kaurna) on 2 May, Melbourne’s Forum Theatre (Naarm) on 4 May, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre (Eora) on 6 May, and ends at Brisbane’s The Tivoli (Meanjin) on 8 May.
The In Real Life tour commemorates Mahalia’s critically acclaimed album, IRL, released last year and marks her first appearance down under since 2020. This will be her most extensive tour in Australia so far, with her previous tour including Laneway Festival slots and Melbourne and Sydney headline shows.
Frontier Members can purchase pre-sale tickets from noon on Monday, 29 January, before the general sale begins on Wednesday, 31 January (also at noon). More ticketing information is available via the Frontier Touring website.
IRL showcases Mahalia's versatility as an artist, seamlessly blending various styles and genres like pop, soul, and R&B while representing a bold leap forward from her debut album, Love & Compromise, and serves as a reflection of where she is musically and emotionally in her career. The album features guest vocalists Jojo, Joyce Wrice, Destin Conrad, Kojey Radical, this year’s Laneway Festival headliner Stormzy, and more.
When asked which Australian artist she’d like to collaborate with in a Purple Sneakers interview, Mahalia responded with Tkay Maidza. Could Tkay open for Mahalia on her Australian tour? We can only hope.

In a 2019 live review of Mahalia’s first-ever headline gig in Sydney, The Music’s Melissa Borg noted that her concert was met with “voracious enthusiasm”. Borg continued, “Launching into No Pressure, Mahalia was instantly met with cheers, even interrupting her performance as she sang a particularly great melisma or lyric.
“Mahalia is a storyteller and provided insight and context as to how or why each song was written. Stating they are ‘mostly about geezers’, she followed the comment up with One Night Only. Most of us are envious and impressed to learn that most songs were written before age 18.”
