And Fleetwood Mac, Castle Bravo, Whitechapel and more

Mick Harvey Delirium Tremens (Mute/Create Control)

Harvey "drag[s] the dark, haunting French sentiments" out in this album, another "gamut of Gainsbourg releases for this third piece of the puzzle". He harnesses "the melancholy and the offbeat wordplay" of Gainsbourg, but "they're refreshed for new sets of ears". The album is "an endlessly interesting listen" and scored four stars and our Album Of The Week.

Broods — Conscious (Island/Universal)

At first listen, "it's hard to find clear evidence as to why Broods should stand out", but the album is worth repeat listens as "singer Georgia Nott is more than the dime-a-dozen vocalists who whisper over programmed beats". The album constantly finds "shades of darkness and light", "swelling and contracting" with sound. We gave it three-and-a-half stars.

Split Seconds — Rest & Relocation (Independent)

The Perth band has "serious talent" but this album feels like "a last-ditch attempt to crack the Eastern market" where they've moved to. "Album highlight Young Adultscould be 2016's most perfect little pop rocker", but the rest of the songs "seem somewhat restrained, as if the band's playing within itself". We gave it three-and-a-half stars.
