The Sydney-based trio have unveiled their debut single, 'World Maps', in honour of the new deal
Sydney-based label Broken Stone Records have announced its signing of local electronic three-piece The Sticks ahead of the release of their debut single, World Maps, this week.
From humble roots late last year as a weekly performing improv outfit, The Sticks quickly garnered a list of collaborators and supporters that includes the likes of Luke Dubber (Hermitude), Jonathon Miller (Magnetic Heads), Peter Hollo (Fourplay) and Joel Rappaport (Big Village) leading up to their signing with Broken Stone and consequent unveiling of World Maps.
Speaking of, it makes little sense to delay further, so wrap your ears around The Sticks' debut single below and read on.
Impressively, along with bass and synthesisers, the band utilise a self-designed instrument called AirSticks, "a 3D timbral Theremin that creates visually compelling and futuristic music, allowing the grabbing altering and morphing of sounds". The AirSticks kit was designed by member Alon Ilsar and computer programmer Mark Havryliv, and affords the band the means for live-sampling and sound manipulation of the noises being made by co-collaborators Daniel Pliner (synth) and Josh Ahearn (bass).
