$100,000 Paid Out To Music Industry By Seed Fund

The arts grant fund announces this year's recipients

Today The Seed Fund – the private, non-profit arts grant fund – has announced their successful applicants across their three grant categories and six initiatives. Across grants and initiatives, the total funding for emerging industry workers and artists amounts to $99,730.

The following 24 managers will attend The Seed's management workshop in October, with the total value of the project being $45,000.

To aid with promotion, The Seed will distribute $15,000 in three $5,000  contributions to Emma Louise, Ngaiire and Tinpan Orange for publicity of their respective upcoming albums.

On the arts front, Lismore open-air gallery The Back Alley Gallery will receive a grant of $4,800, street mural series Connection by Perth's YOK will receive $5,000 and Hobart's Don't Ungangle The Trongolope, an illustrated story with pages painted as murals in the city, $5,000.

The Seed is also home to a number of initiatives, including festival spots for artists whose managers attend the management workshop in 2012. Bobby Alu will play at Cairns' Reggaetown, Ainslie Wills at the Nannup Music Festival, Loon Lake and the Queenscliff Music Festival while acts for Port Fairy Folk Festival, The Falls Music & Arts Festival and Southbound are to be announced.

Managers who receive complimentary BIGSOUND registration this year include Bridget Turner (Boys, Boys, Boys!, Simone Girlfunkle), Cesar Rodriguez (Texture Like Sun, Pip Norman aka Countbounce, Axolotl), Karinda Mutabazi (Roscoe James Irwin) and Nick Lynagh (Numbers Radio, Them Swoops) after they attended the management workshop last year.

The Seed, in conjunction with Skinnyfish Music, have also paid out $18,750 in performance fees this year for indigenous bands to perform at remote music festivals, including the Barunga Festival, Yungi Mangi Festival, Gunbalanya Stone Country Festival and the Bush Bands Bash.

They will be sending Paula Jones of Jones PR and Bill Cullen of One Louder Entertainment to Bush Bands Business to mentor remote community bands.

The Seed was founded in 2005 by John Butler and last year recieved financial donations from Gotye, APRA|AMCOS, PPCA, Correne Wilkie, Tunes For Change and Banks Group.
