Sydney's Lewisham Hotel To Close Its Doors This Wednesday

Another live venue bites the dust

Staff at long-standing Sydney live venue the Lewisham Hotel have been blindsided by the news that the space will be shutting down and closing its doors in the middle of this week as another music space in the city takes its final bow.

In a statement released this afternoon, venue rep and band booker Jon Howell explained that he had received confirmation from the Lewisham's management that the business would "cease trading and will shut its doors this Wednesday 2nd December", indicating that the decision had come as a surprise.

"We regret that this situation has arisen and that we couldn't give more notice … but this is out of the control of anyone who works at the venue on a day-to-day basis, and we've only just heard the decision ourselves," he wrote.

Among the now-cancelled gigs at Lewisham were a planned album launch for Marshall Okell on 4 December, as well as the eagerly awaited Scorcherfest program on 13 December; replacement details are yet to be announced for either.
