With career achievements including two studio albums, an EP and a dedicated following, Sydney-based four-piece Made In Japan have been bringing the quality at levels more than befitting their choice of name for the past seven years. But, with founding member Tom Davis bound for Canada to try his hand as a professional animator come May, the band have announced their decision to take an indefinite hiatus.
“We're really pleased with our achievements and feel it's a pretty good time to hang up our boots,” vocalist and drummer James Cooney said in a statement. “For the last year or so, we've been drawn towards a musical style that doesn't quite fit with Made in Japan and we'd like to explore that.”
Purists, don't be too quick to despair - the band has indicated that, whatever their present circumstances, they are "confident" they'll reunite ... eventually. Still, on the off-chance that doesn't eventuate, it would behoove you to get along to the Oxford Art Factory on May 8, part with a measly $10 entry fee (including booking, available through Moshtix) and take in this brand of delicious local flavour before you can't any more.
