Australian Pop Art Painter Martin Sharp Dies At 71

Sharp came to prominence in the 1960s

Iconic Australian pop artist Martin Sharp has passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with illness.

According to the The Australian, Sharp died this past Sunday after suffering from emphysema for a number of years.

Sharp is best known for his cartoons and and artwork for '60s satirical publication Oz Magazine. He also produced a number of posters depicting musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Donovan, as well as creating the cover art for Cream's seminal LP Disraeli Gears.

He was also a big fan of American singer and ukelele player Tiny Tim and co-wrote songs for Cream and Eric Clapton, the latter going on to become a lifelong friend.
