In a day of news dominated by music streaming, thanks to Spotify's launch, ARIA have told theMusic.com.au they could launch a dedicated chart this year.

Speaking to theMusic, ARIA's CEO Dan Rosen said, "As streaming services enter the local market, we are working with the providers to get the data necessary to begin producing a weekly Streaming Chart. As the year progresses, we look forward to an official streaming chart joining our extensive list of weekly ARIA Charts."

"We were very much on board with the OCC [Official Chart Company] streaming chart launch recently in the UK," Spotify's Label Relations' head Renee Chambers said. "We're a very data-driven company and we're willing and able to provide data to ARIA."

Rosen also indicated that ARIA are currently developing an app for the platform. Radio station triple j launched an app to coincide with the launch today and there are believed to be a number of other local ones in the works.
