"The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed!"
After reports throughout the past week that James Franco and Seth Rogen's embattled political comedy The Interview was doomed to never be released, the stars of the film have announced Sony Pictures is giving the film a limited theatrical release.
Sony cancelled the films scheduled US Christmas release date when theatres began pulling screenings following threats from hacking group Guardians Of Peace, but is now allowing select independent cinemas around the US to do limited screenings on Boxing Day.
This news is in light of North Korea’s official statement denying the hack in the past couple of days.
Sony Entertainment have not made any comment on whether or not the film will get a release outside of the US.

[UPDATE] Deadline Hollywood reports that Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin played a major role in getting The Interview 'uncancelled'. As the owner of the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Martin was one of the members of the Art House Convergence to rally Sony to allow the film to be screened in various independent cinemas around the United States.
The league also revealed that security would be tight at all venues screening the controversial comedy release, a representative said, "We met with local law enforcement. They came out for a security briefing."
