PREMIERE: Yawdoesitall Wows With Debut EP, 'Life I Chose'

Yawdoesitall is beginning his rise to the upper echelons of Australian based hip hop, releasing his debut EP, Life I Chose. 

The Ghanaian Australian hip hop artist burst onto the scene in 2018 with his debut single The Man. Since then he has been praised for his extremely diverse sound, reflecting a range of sonic palettes within the world of contemporary hip hop while remaining deeply true to himself. Since breaking out onto the scene he's released collaborations with Maina Doe and Tawanda on ARMADILLO and TEST DRIVE which grew the attention on his project and his distinct creative skill.

Now he turns to his debut EP which solidifies his already distinct sonic world of bright, adventurous soul oozing music while reflecting on themes of self-empowerment, overcoming adversity and distinct introspective thought. The project poses as a series of vignettes into the mind of a true creative and their journey towards artistic empowerment and achievement. Yaw answers questions he poses to himself on wax, showcasing his creative processes with precision that manifests into the formation of his creative project, Yawdoesitall. 

On the sentiment of the project he states, “Life I Chose documents my journey into Yawdoesitall. It’s a decision, it describes my step into creativity. In my family, I stepped out of the usual “Be a doctor, be a lawyer” and what was expected of me, instead, taking a risk.

"To instead pursue the arts, taking photos and making music. From the start of the EP, it goes from me feeling like I’m the only one here who wants more for myself, and feeling like I’m the only one who sees that there is more to achieve."

The track list is diverse in energy, presenting everything from hard hitting rap cuts, glitsy R&B licks to chipmunk sampled bar heavy rap songs. As an example, the bass driven, ferocious energy of G.Y.M perfectly contrasts the musically astonishing ELUHMENTREE. SWITCH is a beautiful R&B cut that swaps quickly between guitar licks and layered vocals and booming, trap inspired 808s. SHOE FITS is a silky, downtempo cut that would fit perfectly on a Saba or Smino record, taking musical elements from the world of contemporary Chicago rap. 

"The process felt long. It feels like a timestamp on the progress of Yawdoesitall. There is one of the first songs I ever wrote on the EP and there are songs that I only wrote a few months ago!”

All in all, Life I Chose establishes Yawdoesitall as an artist that is ready to dominate, showcasing that whatever sonic lane he wants to tackle, he can handle it with the highest of songwriting abilities.
