US hip hop artists also admits he supports tougher gun laws in the US.

“It's really dope [touring Australia],' Pharoahe Monch told theMusic in an interview with Cyclone ahead of his current Australian tour. “I've been fortunate to work with M-Phazes and Hilltop so its gets better every time and I just love the vibe.”

Pushed on the topic of re-teaming with M-Phazes, who collaborated with Monch on last year's WAR (We Are Renegdes) album, Monch concedes: “We are trying to hook up again, yes.”

Alongside M-Phazes on War was actor Idris Elba, star of The Wire and Luther. Monch downplays the celebrity hook-up, “He was interested in me working on a mixtape with him. He's a huge fan.”

Monch is now a fan of another cult TV series The Walking Dead (“I love zombies.”) but don't expect any collab to come out of that. For the moment he says he will concentrate on a new project. “I've formed a company with long time partner Lee Stone,” says Monch. “And we form a production team called 13m3n... and the stuff we've done is sick.”

Monch has also taken a stance on the gun issues currently dominating US politics. His single Damage examines the impact of guns (following earlier songs Stray Bullet and When The Gun Draws). Monch believes, “There should be stricter laws. Do you think the wider US will ever accept reforms? I'm actually clueless. People love there guns…  it's the automatic weapons, that's the issue.”

Monch begins his Australian tour tonight at Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney. Further dates include:

Monday 14 April – Transit Bar, Canberra
Wednesday 17 April – Republic Bar, Hobart
Thursday 18 April – Rocket Bar, Adelaide
Friday 19 April – Espy, Melbourne.
