US progressive metal outfit Periphery will return with a new album with a brilliant title, Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre, on 10 March via their own label, 3DOT Recordings.
Having a sense of humour about the polarising genre they introduced fans to and popularised - djent - the label itself is one Periphery have raged against, so it's pretty funny to see an album title echoing messages found on Reddit and Twitter.
"We spent more time on Periphery V than any other release in our history," guitarist Mark Holcomb shared. "We challenged and pushed ourselves harder, and along the way we grew even closer as a band.
"We are so proud of the final results! I also wanted to mention how exceedingly grateful we are to our fans for being so patient in waiting for this record. We wanted to show our appreciation by giving you two songs today instead of one. We have a very busy 2023 and 2024 planned so we’ll see you on the road!"
Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre is the band's first album since their 2019 record, Hail Stan. The band have unveiled two new singles from the upcoming nine-track album, which you can hear below. Pre-order the album here.
"I fucking hate it, I think Mark is one of the most [laughs and motions to guitarist Mark Holcomb]. No, it’s easier than you might think it would be," guitarist Jake Bowen told Kill Your Stereo about being in a band with another two guitarists in the studio. "There’s that expression that there are too many cooks in the kitchen but it’s not when there are guys like Mark and Misha.

"I don’t know how they feel about working with me, but I feel working with them is just natural and it’s easy. We understand each other's strengths as players and it’s a nice way to write when people understand your voice with an instrument. I guess I should say that I’m very lucky!"
