Keep your NMEs close
Sixty-three years into its existence, iconic UK music brand NME has today announced that it will re-launch itself as a free streetpaper.
The weekly music publication is currently sold through newsagents for £2.60 but will now be distributed for free through train stations, universities and retail partners around Britain.
The paper's publishers released a statement saying, "NME will dramatically increase its content, output and range with new original as well as curated content appearing across all platforms."
Editor Mike Williams claims that free street press is a way forward for the masthead, "Every media brand is on a journey into a digital future. That doesn't mean leaving print behind but that does mean that print has to change… and NME just kicked the door in."
