With restrictions on people's movement increasing and changing every day across the world, social distancing and self-isolation are being encouraged to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. It's easy in its premise, but after a few days of being at home, it can be quite difficult. Thankfully, the legends at Moog and Korg have released their synthesiser apps for free to help those creatively-inclined to keep preoccupied while spending time inside.
Moog’s Minimoog Model D iOS app and Korg’s iKaossilator app for iOS and Android are available for free for a limited time. Commenting on the decision, Moog said it was “a gift to spread positivity”, while the team at Korg explained further saying, "Schools, workplaces, and meetings worldwide have been requested to close by their respective governments and so many people are studying and working from home."
"To help you with a musical way to occupy your mind we have decided to make the Kaossilator app for iOS and Android free of charge for a limited time (iOS version: through March 31, 2020. Android version: From March 13 to March 20, 2020)."
Both apps require little to know musical knowledge to get started, and are extremely user friendly meaning anyone who was even a tiny bit curious about making music could indeed get started quite quickly. Maybe we'll get to hear some of the results from these apps in the coming weeks!
