The Sydney three-piece will posthumously release their long-awaited debut full-length "in coming months"

Stalwart Sydney outfit New Navy have announced that they are amicably parting ways after four years of activity together, punctuating their joint career with a final farewell track, appropriately titled Goodbye.

"It is with incredible sadness today that we announce that we have decided to hang up our guitars and call it a day," the band wrote in a heartfelt message posted to Facebook this morning and addressed to "friends, fans and family".

"We would like to give a huge, gracious, goodbye hug to all of you, thank you for enjoying our music, coming to our shows, wearing our T-shirts and generally being here with us on this journey. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Fortunately, you haven't quite heard the last of us.

"As a parting gift, we would like to offer you all a free download of a brand new song, appropriately titled 'Goodbye'."

Available for free download on the band's SoundCloud page, Goodbye's finality is somewhat softened by the news that New Navy will still be releasing their eagerly awaited full-length debut album "in coming months", giving fans at least some semblance of comfort that their favourite tracks by the band will have a second life on record.

"We would also like to let you know that, although New Navy will not be performing anymore shows or writing any new music, we will still be releasing our (now completed) debut album in the coming months," the band wrote.

"So that's it, it's out there. Thanks for all the memories, we love you all."

New Navy competed their debut national headline tour in November last year, named for then-current single Heaven, which along with tracks Zimbabwe and Rosaline helped the band break through to wider renown.
