"Music Victoria is committed to promoting gender diversity and the target is an important step toward achieving this."

In light of a survey conducted in April 2015, Music Victoria will ensure representation of at least 40% women across its activities to show its dedication to gender equality throughout the music industry.

With 300 people taking part in the survey, titled Women In The Victorian Contemporary Music Industry, the key issues raised were pay inequality, access to opportunities, the 'confidence gap', the general undervaluing of music and sexual harassment.

"Music Victoria is committed to promoting gender diversity and the target is an important step toward achieving this. Music Victoria encourages others in the industry to adopt a gender diversity policy for their organisations,"  said Deputy Chair at Music Victoria, Cassandra Pace.

With a 50% gender split on its board, Music Victoria's targeted areas of improvement include the representation of women within the committee of management, sub committees, industry consultant groups, The Age Music Victoria Awards' judging panels, public-facing promo material as well as artist/panellist line-ups at Music Victoria hosted events.

Music Victoria have also released a statement explaining that they know gender is a spectrum and when referring to male or female they also include those who identify as gender non-conforming.

Music Victoria will track its progress towards their proposed gender equality goals, in an attempt to inspire similar initiatives in different industries.
