30 September 2014 | 9:17 am | Staff Writer

A real feel good story

Australian music industry charity Support Act have hit their crowdfunding target of $100,000 with two days still to run in the campaign.

Providing support for musicians and music professionals who may be suffering financial hardship due to illness, injury or other crisis, the ‘Bandwagon’ campaign kicked off in early September and is their most ambitious fundraising drive to date.

Over $110,000 has been raised at time of publish.

In total 216 people have donated money towards the goal. Eight of those will receive mentoring sessions from the likes of Hilltop Hoods, Michael Chugg and John Watson, while others will be receiving birthday messages from John Williamson, Josh Pyke, John Butler and Ian Moss. Hand-number screen prints of a Steve Kilbey painting have also been popular.

Others have bought dinner for themselves and friends at restaurants around Australia with performances by The Preatures, Hoodoo Gurus, Tim Finn, Eskimo Joe and others while others have picked up song production packages.

“We are absolutely delighted to have received such a positive response to our campaign,” Support Act Chief Executive Joanna Cave said today. “The community has shown that music matters and that we do care about the people who make it when times are tough.”

A number of rewards are still available for purchase at Support Act’s Pozible page here.
