"The Roundtable is set to become Australia’s major music policy and industry development forum."

More than 100 experts from the music industry and government will join forces this August to take part in a national roundtable that aims to strengthen Australia’s live music scene.

The Music Australia-led initiative will hear from specialist agencies, record labels, booking agents, managers and publishers, government officials and international speakers in an effort to develop a National Music Business plan that will provide support and a plan for the rapidly growing contemporary music industry.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, support from City of Sydney will see collaboration with Australia Council to get the much-needed attention of policy makers and government representatives from around the country in an effort to increase government support for the music scene.

City of Sydney’s involvement also sees them contribute $30,000 as part of its Live Music and Performance Action Plan. They will be working with Music Australia leading up to the event, with a National Music Business Plan expected to be ready by June for the August event.

Music Australia CEO Chris Bowen said the support from the City was an important element.

“The Roundtable is set to become Australia’s major music policy and industry development forum - a national brains trust for innovation and development in contemporary music.”
The discussions will take place over two days in August with a strong focus on music policy, industry development, venues, export, education and research.
