Favourite tracks from much-loved movie scores will be played in tandem with HD projections of selected scenes.

Unless you’re a soulless cyborg, you’ve probably blubbed more than a few tears watching a Pixar film — if there’s one thing those talented animators at Disney know how to do, it’s how to tug on the ol’ heart strings.

If you’ve ever wondered how Pixar film after Pixar film manages to smack you right in the feels, it’s got a lot to do with the sweet, sentimental scores underpinning the action.

Melburnian animation fans can now hear those tear-jerking tunes firsthand as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has announced a special concert series celebrating all things Pixar.

Music from the Toy Story trilogy, The Incredibles, Up, Finding Nemo, Wall-E and more will be played live at the Hamer Hall on 7-8 April, while stunning, high-definition projections of favourite scenes are simultaneously played on the big screen.

This isn’t the only film tribute the orchestra have planned in the coming months. Two scores by legendary movie composer John Williams — Jurassic Park and Harry Potter — and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack for There Will Be Blood will receive similar showcases, with selected scenes projected for total cinematic immersion.
