Pre-production is reportedly "well underway" in Broken Hill for Fury Road prequel.
Multi-Oscar-winning dystopian blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2015, and it was very nearly a homegrown hit to boot. The revival of the iconic '80s franchise, directed by Aussie George Miller, was due to be filmed in the arid outback of Broken Hill, but when a drought broke and pesky plants started springing up, Miller was forced to relocate to Namibia in search of a suitably parched wasteland.
Rumours reported by The Herald Sun could mean Australia gets a second shot at Hollywood greatness, as pre-production is allegedly “well underway” in Broken Hill for a new Mad Max film. Shooting could begin as early as next year, and according to one “highly placed onset source”, it’s likely to be a prequel to Fury Road, exploring the origin story of hook-handed bad ass Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron.
Tom Hardy fans needn’t feel put out either. The British actor, who took over the title role from Mel Gibson, revealed last year that he was signed for another three Mad Max films.
