Can they score the trifecta?

More Macklemore & Ryan Lewis More Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

As Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Thrift Shop, featuring Wanz, firms as the favourite for this weekend's triple j Hottest 100 (so much so that they've suspended betting) the Seattle-based duo are also looking for chart domination this week.

Last week another of their tracks Same Love, featuring Mary Lambert, took over top spot on the ARIA Albums Chart from Thrift Shop and according to mid-week figures both remain extremely popular with the music-buying public. The main challenge to the rap and production act's hold on the Singles Chart comes from Bluesfest-bound The Lumineers, whose track Ho Hey is experiencing the same success it has already enjoyed in the US.

And their charge doesn't stop there. For the first time Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' album The Heist looks like it's in with a real shot at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. Jumping from eight to three last week, the midweek figures suggest that they'll mount a strong challenge against current number one Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox and current number two the soundtrack to Les Miserables.

If they do manage to hold both number one spots come Sunday – and win the Hottest 100 on Saturday – it will prove their status as one of Australia's most popular acts. The album peaked at two on the US album charts and if they go to number one this week it is believed it will be their first overall number one anywhere in the world. (They topped both the US R&B and Rap charts.)

Elsewhere, new releases that are looking to crack a top ten ARIA Singles Chart debut this week are Justin Timberlake's comeback in the form of Suit & Tie and locals Birds Of Tokyo with Lanterns. The latter will be a welcome addition for Aussie acts, as there's only one local in the top 20 currently: Samantha Jade at 20 with What You've Done To Me.

Bullet performers on the Album Charts will come from A$AP Rocky's delayed release LONG.LIVE.A$AP and Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events, released last year.
