More Wes Carr More Wes Carr

Singer-songwriter Wes Carr has written a personal, heartfelt song about the events that unfolded during this week's siege in Sydney.

Carr, who achieved broad recognition for winning the 2008 series of Australian Idol before reinventing himself earlier this year by way of radical haircut, uploaded a video of himself performing the song, titled I Pray, to Facebook yesterday.

"Today I have so many questions, so much on my mind," Carr began an accompanying post. "I woke with a feeling of confusion, uneasiness...

"Right now I'm meant to be rehearsing for my [upcoming] show about George Harrison, [but] I had something bottled up inside of my heart, I couldn't ignore the feeling and then this song just poured out of me."

"In everything that has happened over the last 24 hours I pray we can learn from this and come together as a people no matter what and who we are."

You can watch his emotive performance below; lyrics are contained in the full post.

Carr has been consistently vocal in his support for the victims, hostages and families involved in Monday's siege, and has not been shy about expressing his gratitude for those who have found solace in his song. He posted this morning on Facebook, "THANKYOU ALL from the pit of my soul. ThankYOU for sharing the LOVE. I am so deeply humbled my song 'I Pray' has resonated with so many.

"To the Lives lost in the madness taht transpired in Sydney, Rest In Peace," he continued. "To their families we send you all strength. To the insanity that is happening all around the world, we will OVERCOME it with pure, positive LOVE and strength. Massive love and hugs to you ALL."
