Listen To Marlon Williams' Lush New Single, 'Dark Child'

19 December 2014 | 11:04 am | Staff Writer

The track is the second single from the troubadour's eagerly awaited debut LP

New Zealand-bred singer-songwriter Marlon Williams is maintaining momentum following his triumphant recent performance at Meredith Music Festival by looking forward to next year, unveiling Dark Child, the newest taste from his forthcoming debut full-length, this week.

The slow-burn, lusciously layered cut was written by Williams' friend Tim Moore, recorded in Lyttelton, on the South Island, with veteran producer Ben Edwards (Aldous Harding, Tami Neilson). It's a markedly different atmosphere than what we've come to expect from Williams in recent times, but the track's measured, meticulous, minutes-long crescendo of chorus and atmosphere — and the way in which it gives way to relief and release towards the song's conclusion — makes for an intelligent, evocative song well worth your 3:57.

If you thought Williams was busy this year, his 2015 is already looking super-strong: he'll be at Summer Of Soul, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Nannup Music Festival and The Hills Are Alive, with further festival and tour spots due to be announced in the new year.
