She wants to treat people the way she wanted to be treated.

More Katy Perry More Katy Perry

She's a genuine pop culture icon, one of the highest selling recording artists of the current day and now Katy Perry is adding another feather to her already considerably well stocked cap with the announcement of her own record label.

In the June 29 edition of The Hollywood Reporter, of which she is the cover star, Perry has announced the launch of a new, as yet unnamed label, which she hopes to use as a platform for up and coming artists.

“When this record label does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success,” she says. “As people are coming to me with opportunities, I'm thinking, 'How would I want to be treated?'”

It is believed Perry, who walked a long road which included two label signings which proved to be false starts, was offered just shy of USD$1 million for publishing rights to her songs before she hit the big time with her 2008 debut One Of The Boys, but rejected the offer. To date Perry has earned an estimated USD$7 million on single sales and a further USD$6 million thanks to her co-writing credits on the 12 big radio songs she has released throughout her career.
