Rock Legend Jim Keays In Intensive Care

Was admitted after fundraising performance

Australian rock legend and ARIA Hall Of Fame member Jim Keays has been admitted to intensive care in a Melbourne hospital.

The Glasgow-born 67-year-old frontman of iconic Aussie rock band The Masters Apprentices' is suffering from complications related to his battle with Multiple Myeloma, which he has battled for seven years.

Keays was admitted to hospital the day after performing at Crown Casino for the Masters Of Rock concert, a fundraising event for the Myeloma Foundation of Australia. Two days later he was transferred to the intensive care unit, where he remains in a stable condition.

Myeloma is a cancer of the blood's plasma cells and last year Keays underwent experimental stem cell transplant to keep his kidneys functioning.

The Masters Apprentices formed in 1965 and went on to have hits lie Turn Up Your Radio, Undecided, and 5:10 Man before disbanding in 1972. They have reformed on a number of subsequent occasions, the latest being 2001 for a year. The Masters Apprentices were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1988.

From 2000 Keays had been performing regularly with Russell Morris and Darryl Cotton as Cotton Keays & Morris before Cotton succumbed to cancer in 2012.
