Jarvis Cocker To UK PM: You Did Not See My Bum

Jarvis Cocker sends a message to the British Prime Minister: "At no point was my bare backside revealed."

In an interview published by The Guardian this weekend, Britpop icon Jarvis Cocker calls the British PM a liar for saying that he once saw the singer's bum.

It all stems back to the incident at the 1996 Brits when Cocker invaded the stage during Michael Jackson's epic performance of Earth Song.

Prime Minister David Cameron referred to the incident during an interview with the paper last year.

At the end of one question, Cameron said, "There we are. Not as punchy as Jarvis Cocker on Michael Jackson, but it's the best I can do. I was there that night, at the Brit awards. I saw him led away. I saw his bum."

Cocker refutes that he flashed the late US singer.

"I'd just like to point out," Cocker challenged, "that if anybody cares to look at the video evidence, at no point was my bare backside revealed. So therefore the fact he says he's seen it totally negates the credence of what he said in the previous part [of the answer]."

Cocker added, "I'm glad I've got that off my chest – it's been bothering me, that."

Cocker was being interviewed about his new role as ambassador for saving the Arctic environment. He dodged answering a question about having regrets of his 1996 Brits protest, considering Jackson was singing about planet-saving issues at the time ("and pretending to be Christ," Cocker added).

Cocker's only comment:  "It is a right good song, obviously."
